Jose Quevedo joined Lewis & Associates LLP in the summer of 2023. Originally from Colombia, before coming to Canada Jose worked as an advisor for several public institutions focusing on Human Rights Law, Administrative Law, and Public International Law.
Jose was part of the team of the Ministry of Justice of Colombia that prepared the legal framework for implementing the Transitional Justice System created by the Peace Agreement signed after a decades-long internal conflict.
He won a scholarship granted by the International Nuremberg Principles Academy in Germany to participate in the International Criminal Law Summer Academy for Young Professionals.
As a legal advisor for the President of the Commission for the Clarification of Truth, Coexistence and Non-Repetition of Colombia Jose co-authored two of the texts included in the final report of the Commission: The Legal Framework of the Commission of Truth, and Lessons Learned for Accessing Classified Information to clarify Human Rights violations (translated titled).
Jose holds an LLB from the Industrial University of Santander, a postgraduate diploma in International Contract Law from Externado University, and a postgraduate diploma in Project Management from George Brown College. He is a native Spanish speaker and is fluent in English and French.
When Jose is not engaged in his passion for working in Human Rights and humanitarian causes, he enjoys cooking with his partner and hitting the outdoors with their two rescued terrier mixed pups that came with him from Colombia.
