Ricardo Silva-Torres is a legal expert with a solid academic background and extensive experience in Brazilian and Canadian legal systems. His professional exposure covers numerous branches of law, including civil, criminal, immigration, refugee, energy, and family law, demonstrating his adaptability and dedication to justice.
Ricardo’s academic achievements provide him with a strong foundation in law. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from Centro Universitário de Curitiba (UNICURITIBA) in Brazil, along with postgraduate diplomas in Applied Law from Escola da Magistratura do Paraná (EMAP) and Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure from UNICURITIBA. With a keen interest in energy law, he pursued a Master’s in Smart Energy (M.Sc.) from Gnarus Institute in Brazil. He also earned a Master’s in law (LL.M.) from Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, which enriches his understanding of international legal frameworks.
He began his career as a law student and intern at Wambier & Arruda Alvim Wambier Law Firm, where he implemented innovative approaches to analyzing administrative cases, significantly enhancing productivity. He later advanced to Associate Attorney at the same firm, focusing on asset recovery and civil litigation. In 2016, he established his own law firm as the principal partner for over six years, handling a broad range of legal matters, including civil and criminal cases as well as public tenders and energy law.
In 2023, Ricardo transitioned to the Canadian legal landscape, initially serving as a Law Intern at a Criminal Law Office, where he gained practical experience in courtroom appearances. He subsequently became an Articling Student at Lewis & Associates LLP in August 2023, specializing in immigration and refugee law, and he is currently pleased to work there as a lawyer.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Ricardo is also committed to community service. He has volunteered as a Pro Bono Lawyer with the Court of Justice of Paraná, offering legal assistance in family, criminal, and civil law cases. Ricardo also served as a law clerk at the Court of Justice of Minas Gerais, conducting legal research and drafting judicial decisions. Additionally, he is an active member of the Brazil Canada Bar Association (BCBA).
As a published author, Ricardo has contributed peer-reviewed articles on energy law and regulatory policy in Brazil, with his research appearing in esteemed journals such as the Brazilian Archives of Biology and Technology and the Revista Brasileira de Energia.
On a personal note, Ricardo enjoys travelling, exploring new cultures, and studying history, particularly Ancient and Medieval history.
