Claudia Lazarte Abarca joined Lewis and Associates LLP in January 2023 as a work placement student. Now she continues to work as a lawyer. She earned a Global Professional Master of Laws in Canadian Law at the University of Toronto in 2021 and will be called to the Ontario Bar in June 2023.
Claudia is an internationally trained lawyer from Peru, fluent in both English and Spanish. In Peru, Claudia practiced law for over 6 years as an in-house counsel for Latam Airlines, the largest aviation company in South America. Her professional experience involved different areas of legal practice such as Corporate and Business Law, Administrative Law, Procedural Law, and Contract Law.
Claudia’s interest for Immigration and Refugee law stems from her own experience as an immigrant herself. Having experienced first-hand the complexities of the Canadian immigration system, she wants to become an immigration lawyer to help others navigate this process.
Claudia is an empathetic, compassionate, and detail-oriented person. These traits of her personality plus her knowledge of the Spanish language, have allowed her to successfully work with several refugee claimants from different countries of Latin America.
Outside the office, Claudia enjoys traveling, swimming, and spending time with family and friends.
