Divyanshu Datta joined Lewis & Associates LLP in the fall of 2023. He was called to the bar in Ontario in June 2018. He used to mostly practice in real estate and immigration law. His journey in immigration includes previous experience in business immigration, work permits, worker mobility programs (C20, ICTs), exempt and regular Labour Market Opinion Assessments (LMIA), family sponsorships, and other temporary and permanent residency programs.
Divyanshu is the grandson of refugees from the partition of India, and he comes from a family and clan that has historically always offered help and protection to vulnerable people in the Indus Valley region. After not feeling satisfied in his career and the type of work he was doing, he found his calling and purpose when he worked on his first refugee file.
Previously he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Humanities from York University in 2011 and 2012, and then he completed his law school at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom in 2016. He gained practical knowledge of Canadian law through his LLM in Canadian Common Law at Osgoode Hall Law School, from which he graduated in October 2017.
When he is not working, he enjoys cooking, writing, and cheering, then getting heartbroken by, the Toronto Maple Leafs.
He speaks English, Hindi and Punjabi.
